Last December, during my visit to England, my best friend and I decided to celebrate her daughter’s birthday by taking her on a weekend trip to Blenheim palace. To maximize our time at the palace, we decided to leave London on friday evening and spend the night in Oxford, before traveling onto Woodstock early the next morning. Though we hardly had much time to explore the city, we did manage to go on a couple of walks on saturday morning. The skies were cloudy that day and it felt like it was going to rain any minute so the city looked quite gloomy. However, I am glad my friend’s daughter did not seem put off by the weather, and the walk seemed to reinforce her fascination with Oxford university, where she wants to study when she eventually finishes secondary school in a few years.
This post is a photo tour of some of the highlights we passed by during our walk.

Lately, I have been reading and hearing a lot about Oxford. It is such a cute town (and tons of history in there). I didn’t know a lot about it till I start to learn more because of travel bloggers. So good you had a chance to visit. #TheWeeklyPostcard

Oxford is a lovely city, and especially easy to get to from London as it is just an hour away. As we had prioritized Blenheim palace, we didn’t spend too much time in the city but at least I did have a few hours there.

It does, doesn’t it? I love it that they also refer to Hertford bridge as the bridge of sighs, with the view from within the bridge, of the Radcliffe camera.

The Bodleian library is beautiful. We only had time to wander around the premises and then visit the gift shop but I would have love to go on one of the guided tours around the library.

I went to Oxford years ago, but really want to revisit it soon. It really looks like such a beautiful city and I want to see the library. Thanks for sharing on #TheWeeklyPostcard.

The Bodleian libraries was what attracted me the most in my morning walk around Oxford city. The group of buildings are beautiful. The grey cloaking the rest of the city did put me off a bit, as I kept thinking that I had loved Cambridge at first sight but didn’t feel the same about Oxford, until I came to the library.

We loved our time in Oxford, but unfortunately the library was closed while we were there. Thanks for linking up this week! #wkendtravelinspiration

Nice to hear that you enjoyed your time in Oxford. The library was open during our visit, but we didn’t have much time to explore it leisurely.

So much history in one place! I visited England once, years ago, but never had a chance to visit Oxford. So far the closest I’ve ever been to experiencing Oxford is through the Morse and Lewis TV programs!

I lived in Oxford for a few years and still have friends there so we go back quite often – lovely reminder in your post of lots of memories, including the time a group of us decided to walk to Blenheim one summer. Not sure I’d recommend that though! Thanks for linking up with #citytripping

Just like Ruth, I feel like I’ve been hearing a lot about Oxford of late and it’s all been good. Clearly some nice buildings to see and it is home to one of the most famous universities so I think that’d be pretty cool to experience. #wkendtravelinspiration

Plus, it has some great sites to visit within 30mins – 1 hour bus ride away, such as the birthplace of Winston Churchill.
